Lipoic Acid

Lipoic acid, also known as thioctic acid, is a sulphur-containing compound produced naturally by the human body.

It is found within all cells and was discovered in 1951 and identified as an essential component of mitochondria, the organelles that act as the cells’ ‘powerhouses’. Mitochondria contain the enzymes necessary to carry out the chemical reactions that ‘extract’ the energy contained in food, which they then store, keeping it concentrated and ready for use in the countless functions of the cells.

This active ingredient can also be obtained from certain foods: it is naturally present in broccoli, spinach, potatoes, brewer’s yeast and, above all, in red meat, particularly in the liver and heart.
