Burdock (Arctium lappa L.) is a herbaceous perennial, typically found in fallow areas. Arctium comes from the Greek and means “bear”: this alludes to the fuzz that covers the plant making it as “hairy as a bear”; while lappa, from the Celtic language means “hand”, and refers to the hook shaped fruits that tend to stick to animal fur or clothing during walks in the countryside.
